Jain-INCID Agri Irrigation Development Award / Jain-INCID Krishi Sinchai Vikas Puraskar
Sponsor :  Jain Irrigation - Convenor : INCID & Jain Charities
(INCID-The Indian National Committee on Irrigation & Drainage-Agriculture Ministry, GOI)

Background Outline :
Traditional flood irrigation results in misuse of water. Excess water increases soil salinity, damages its texture, & thus productivity reduces. Micro-irrigation achieves water savings, controls salinity and increases productivity.
If excess water near the crop roots is drained out using suitable drainage method, the damage to crops is prevented.
Micro-irrigation is suitable for bringing hilly, sloppy and barren lands also under cultivation.
Micro-irrigation provides water near roots of plants. If a basic improvement is achieved in the system design, then it will become more effective.
Micro irrigation permits use of brackish water or treated effluent from industry, thus conserving water. This award is declared for those who do fundamental work considering all these positive aspects of micro-irrigation.
