Background Outline :
Though herself illiterate, Bahinabai’s poetry reached the hearts of the
entire Maharashtra due to simple verse, lucid yet touching language,
honesty of feelings, deep-rooted humanity, and abiding love for
environment.
The gifted Bahinabai conceived and sang these verses while performing
household chores – for soothing from weary – grinding / milling, sweeping
/ cleaning or cowdung-slurry sprinkling / smearing on floor – and touched
....... with god. Khandesh Friends Circle established Bahinabai Trust and
declared the award to commemorate her memory – an effort in repaying the
loan of this Khandeshi Poetess.
Jain Charities encourages the artists in various fields of art, music,
literature, culture, etc. Therefore, this trust engaged in social welfare
sponsored the award in honour of Bahinabai – a daughter of farmer from
Khandesh.
Selection Process :
• Applications are not invited.
• Collection of poems is made available by publishers, connoisseurs of
poetry, etc.
• A committee of three members comprising of a trustee and two
respected poets go through the poems.
• Thoughtful, balanced discussions take place in the meeting.
• Two members of the committee are changed very year.
• The names of the members are kept secret.
